These are the beaches of Capomiseno (near Naples).
In the summer they are used by several hundreds thousands of locals to go at seaside (mainly families and youngsters).

Some months later I've discovered another photographer on the same photo forum I write sometimes on have taken a photo on the same spot.
To say it all it is my favorite shot of the day AFTER the Italsider one.

From Blu to Red

This shot has been cut out from a single shot done with Nikon D300...
It is a Pano of Bagnoli's coastline in hte sunset... but look at the colors... it's not the usual pano at the sunset and it is not a HDR too!

I really like it... but let the image speak by itself^_^

Sun and Fog

Last sunset shot taken with the PowerShot A630.

I was speaking with a fellow PhD Student at the phone when I looked out of the window... to see a landscape I knew contained the following shot...

The sky had poured water all upon Naples all the day till mid afternoon where it stopped.... but it was really cloudy....

At some point the clouds opened to let some sun light that where captured in the mist near land painting the land on the sky... I do not know how to describe it... the photo shows it...
For one time the inability of the camera to shoot ad High ISOs was helpful... as it forced me to take a darker picture that emphasised the effect...

Camera Model: Canon PowerShot A630

Sadness

This is one of the strangest light I've ever seen...
Before anything else I've to say that the phot has not veen PPed in anyway...

I was driving along Via Manzoni on a late afternoon in November (IIRC, Obviously!) when looking at my left I've seen this strange light... As I had my PS A630 with me I stopped the car and hurried to take this shot beforethe light changed!

Sunset II - Yellow Light, a tree and sea...

These two shots are really different... while being really similar... confused? read on!

Both of them are targeted to the same coast... thay ahave been taken with the same camera but more than a year apart...

The first one is puteoli's gulf seen from balcony out of my rooms... I liked the warm color of the light even if I remember the ma little more peachy... I will not play with the WB after more than a Year!

Exif reads:

The second one is one of three keepers I got from my photo scouting on easter monday (we call it Pasquetta... surely it has an english name I do not know^_^).
THe night before I played with several setting shootingin JPEG BASIC vs the usual RAW... I forgot about it since the followin day's night when I checked the images... another lesson learned the hard way.

This shot was suggested by Adriano Fazzari... I should say inspired by as he tried to take a similar shot but failed (He hadn't ever before used a camera not in auto! Keep trying Adriano!)

And the lightray shines through

This is one of my preferred shots (I hope it is the right one to inaugurate this last stint in my photoblogging^_^)... In a cloudy day while I was looking at the bagnoli's and puteoli's gulf... I see this heavenly shot...

It is enhanced by the fast shutter speed that gives more contrast to the light rays making all things darker...

A Monument in Bologna

From the same research trip I've taken the attempt to HDR I've shot some other monuments that where in places of Bologna I've not been before as I was searching for the Business Adminsitration Department of the Alma Mater Studiorum (the Latin Name o the University of Bologna IIRC).

It was a sunny ad the end of June and I had my Nikon AF-S 18-200 f3.5-5.6 on... a perfect travel lens if used on a DX camera as the D300.

That was the second day of a nigthmerish travel (Broken Car, Costly Train, Wrong Hotel and Lost some of the opening gigs to the JP concert...) and I needed to relax so traveling around as a tourist instead as a scholar was a good way to restore my energies^_^

In order to shoot this photograph I've put a CPL on the lens (above the UV Filter I had always on at the time) and, after searching for a composition I liked more, I come up with a shot that needed some more cropping later (so I had not chosen wisely!)

After this little while... enjoy the image^_^

Night in Naples

I really like this shot... maybe because it is the first one I've sold, or as it was the result of "just being there at the right moment"!... honestly I can't tell the real reason.

I was driving back home after a game night in Castellammare (30 km to Naples) and while I was looking an Naples' Gulf I've seen this shot... just had to lug off the camera bag from the car and shoot this (ok ok I needed 3 or 4 shots to have it as I liked it^_^
The shot was really like I wanted it so I've not needed to crop it!

Waiting for sunset

Here in ITaly we play rugby... just to say it all our most widespread sport is soccer, then you'll have many other more famous sports and in the end you'll have rugby... but we play it!

Our national representative (Italy Rugby Team) plays in the 6 Nations' Tournament every year.
England, France, Galles, Ireland, Italy and Scotland meet each other in the field once every year... it's really a show time!

Last Sunday we went seeing the match in the house of a frien d of ours (Italy has lost! :() and after losing the game I realized there was an almost perfect vignette to portrait.

I've taken this shot in portrait and later cropped to have a landscape as I was not fully sure how the sun reflection on the cars would have been after working with GIMP...

To say it all the effect was awful... so I cut them out!

The original photo was taken with a Nikon d300 and the 18-200 VRII, it was taken at F/13 with a shutter speed of 1/200" and at ISO 200.

High Speed Sunset

Same day as the previous post (a little earlier I'd say) I took some shots from the sunset.
It was a claudy day so it was impossible to see the sun... but I could see its reflection on the clouds.
It was a fairly cheap shot to take... but I was alone in the Car speeding at something like 90 mph!

The shot was taken at f/2.8 with an exposure of 1/60".

Poggio di VallePiana

Near Montesano sulla Marcellana there's this agrituorism restaurant that's called "Il Poggio di Valle Piana" (that could be translated as "The Hill in Flat Valley").

It is a really peaceful and beautiful place.
In order to arrive you'd need a off-road vehicle, but you always go there with a normal city car (I own a FIAT Stilo) with some strain on you suspensions.... but once you get there...

It's a good looking house with some tables...

They usually give you a plentifull meal (8-9 dishes!) and you get to pay under 20€ each...

It's fantastic... really fantastic^_^

In the yard there's this portcully that let you enjoy the sight of "VallePiana", the only matter is that you cannot shoot these places at the right time, with the right light as I aslways go there at lunch time in summer so there a strong, perpendicular light...

But I'd like to give you an idea of the sight from the restaurant as I find it really peacefull and pleasant!

Vallo di Diano

This summer I've gone in mountain wiht a friend of mine, searching for an "Acgriturismo"... a place where you can eat and drink local products...

The chosen place was near "Montesano sulla Marcellana" in Salerno's province.

That morning I took several shoot of the view from the village, the light was strong so they are not the best shot you can dream of... but the land is really amazing...
We're in Italy... and look at how many grassland is out there^_^

The shot was taken just before going to sleep as we went there after a night playing with "Tide of Iron".

Exposure was 1/400
Aperture was f/4.0

Hill and Sea

The 7th of November I was invited to an International Conference on Design System's Development it was taken in Ravello, in the Costiera Amalfitana.

The location was not easy to find (I had to get trough a herd of sheeps!) but it was really a beautiful day...
DUring most of the day I was hlad in the conference room, but I succeeded in taking some shots going back to my car...

There are some beautiful sights out there, as shown by this photo... but it was too late and the near mountain's shadow started to creep over the land...

I like this shot... but if I succeeded in shooting it just 15 minutes before It wuold have been quite better!

This was done with my A630 with an ET of 1/1250 and the aperture setting at f/4.1

Paler shades of grey

Paler shades of grey, that is what you'll have if you succeed in shooting a mountain chain...

The farer the mountain is the paler it gets... we are used to this, but it's an amazing photo subject for me^_^

And there's a more striking effect if the mountain you shoot are ripe with vegetation so there's a "greener grey"!

This shot was made near the sunset so there's a soft light that's always useful in this kind of photos...
To say it all I'd prefferred having another mountain after the foreground one... but I have not found a spot whit it...

Shot was made at 07:05 PM, with an Exposure Time of 1/400 at f/4.1

Nice, Old Church

I was in Pinerolo in September (many of my shots were taken in this period)...

With some of the other students we decided to go walking in the countryside to know it.
In one of the squares of this little town there was this nice, old church...

I like the strong vivid red of the church's walls, and a nice looking gradient in the background...
A sidenote on the belltower... look at it^_^

This was made with an exposure time of 1/500 sec, and a FNumber of f/4.0...
