Naples by Day - New Tamron Lens First Shot

The first shot I took with the new lens I got this July has been taken from my balcony as I liked the light that very same day I shot from my balcony ^_^.

There's not rally much to say... it the shot right out of the camera (Ok ok it has been cropped for the web!).

Yummy Chocolate...

A Christmas present my mother got from one of her students. It's a chocolate bar shaped as a piece of wood and my mother wanted it to be shot.

I jumped on the occasion in order to confront my self with still-life food photo... It was a failure!

I had only a flash and used the AF-S 18-200 in order to take the shot... it is not a good photo and moreover I used the red-eye reduction (Why on the earth I did something like that?)..

I still do not have a still life softbox but I could have used some linen instead of a trasparent table!

San Francesco ai Chiostri

Speaking of not too sharp shots...
This too was taken with my D300 and the AFS 18-200 in some strange situation of lights that fooled my AF...

I've taken this picture while I was going to a famous ice cream shop in Bologna (Gelatauro) the day after Gods Of Metal 2007.
I was walking under the cloisters (the walkways in in the old Bologna are covered and are called Chiostri (IIRC) I can't find a better word for them) and I was taken by this sight and decided to shoot it...
Far lovelier sight than I succeeded in capturing I suppose^_^

PhD

This shot was taken and thought with the help by a colleague Daniele Russo (he is the man in the photo!)

The Idea was to give the viewer the essence of the PhD Student...
We're not saying that we are used to xerox things... but that we are ready for unusual chores at unusual time of the day...

In particular IIRC this was taken AFTER we got a session of exams in Economia e Gestione delle Imprese (Business Administration).

We have toyed for sometime with several WB setting to end with the following ones.

Monte Sant'Angelo by night (2/2)

This is the other one...

A more classical color more respectful of the real lights put there...

This is a little less ghostly but it has something appealing on the lines and lights in the lower - half contrasting with the smooth clouds in the upper half...

Monte Sant'Angelo by night (1/2)

This is the first shot of two on Monte Sant'Angelo (our University campus) by night.

This is slightly unusual as in Italy we do not have real Campus were students live... but as a PhD Student often I was making some research late in the evening and so one night I decided to shoot some photo just outside my department (Business Administration).

So... I took the tripod with me and starting taking pictures... obviously I've selected 2 from many more shots...

The first one has a little too blu white balance (as you can see from the lights) but it gives a ghostly appearance I really like (it contrasts with the modern structure).

Sun and Fog

Last sunset shot taken with the PowerShot A630.

I was speaking with a fellow PhD Student at the phone when I looked out of the window... to see a landscape I knew contained the following shot...

The sky had poured water all upon Naples all the day till mid afternoon where it stopped.... but it was really cloudy....

At some point the clouds opened to let some sun light that where captured in the mist near land painting the land on the sky... I do not know how to describe it... the photo shows it...
For one time the inability of the camera to shoot ad High ISOs was helpful... as it forced me to take a darker picture that emphasised the effect...

And the lightray shines through

This is one of my preferred shots (I hope it is the right one to inaugurate this last stint in my photoblogging^_^)... In a cloudy day while I was looking at the bagnoli's and puteoli's gulf... I see this heavenly shot...

It is enhanced by the fast shutter speed that gives more contrast to the light rays making all things darker...

Here and Now (even better than last night)

Here I am in front of the PC.
Yesterday the light was off and I was playing to Battle For Wesnoth in my Linux box.

I find that game very intriguing... so I advise you to try it out (it's free!)!

My PC has one of those light emitting fan. I had never noticed the nice effects it have in the night.
Last night I tried to shot a photo of it...
With a screenshot of BfW it was not a reallyl inspiring one... so I got an idea.
Use the monitor of hte PC to display the image from yesterday and shoot another photo of the fan...
I would have done it on the instant but the battery was too low to shoot (not joking!)... So I had to wait...
For the second shot I have used the AF Nikkor 50mmm 1:1.4 I've bought used last week.

I've used a shutter speed of 1/25 and an ISO setting of 400 so I have succeeded in using f/4.0

Dreaming stair

I really do not know who has painted this and what is its title... but is a woundrous kind of painting in my opinion!

I really like its colors, and the nearly impossible light cut near the base of the stairs...

This painting too comes out of hte teaching school in Pinerolo, of course^_^

Cloudy Sky

It was one of hte last days at the teaching school of Pinerolo...
That day I had to give lessons on something about accounting to make a road test of what I had learnt.

It was a hot day, but the sky was cluody... ok sort of cloudy...

I publish this picture (taken straight out of the camera with no PP!) as it has one of the best sky I've seen!

Delle Alpi - The Police

This is a shot of the "Delle Alpi" stadium... where the police have made their last italian live show.

I?m sorry to admit that meanwhile this shot was taken by me, I'm not the author of the composition's idea... that goes to Pino Macrì, a frined of mine (he is my comic book pusher too^_^),
While searching for the gate he proposed to make this "silhuette" photo... great idea Pino...

The shot was taken while we where moving so it is not the best shot... but it is shown here to honor the idea behind it...

Moreover this is the first of four posts on the concert... they are not the most artistic or journalistic shto of hte world... but it was a too great concert not to publish here some of it!

I'd have preferred a little more of saturation and contrast on this shot... but here it is as it was taken!

Bologna's Porch

I was in Bologna as said in the previous posts.
This is a view from the window odf the room I slept in!
The house was near city center, and so the streets near there are small and there are a porch for every palace.
The road itself is not too much lighted, but the porches are clearly lighted.This shot documents the overall effect^_^

It was taken at 10:37 PM with a f/2.8 and an exposure time of 1 sec (damn! It is really hard to shoot at these exposure times without a tripod!)

Glass Artework 2

Same setting as the previous post, only another glas artwork.
In the church there were 4 glass artworks but this two are the only ones I will post to this blog.
I believe this second one is a better photo than the previous one.

These two shots were taken the 23th of September (EXIF... I Love you!^_^) with an aperture of f/2.8 and an exposure time of 1/80" at 200 ISO.

The day after being in Bologna I went to Modena to meet an old pal.

In the following day the girl that hosted me in Bologna (she is an old friend of both of us) came in Modena to meet us.
My pal had to go away for a while so I took a tour of modena with the friend from Bologna.
We ended up in this church near train station... it had a couple of amazing glasswork that colored the church in an amazing way.
So I took some photos... this is the first shot, the glasses beyond the main altar.

The photo was taken with an aperture of f/2.8 and an exposure of 1/80" at 200 ISO.

Bologna's Evening

I was coming back to my friend house in bologna and in the city center (part of his heritage) I believed the sky was far darker than what really was...
So when I arrived at this crossroad that let me see far... I found a nice spot to shoot a photo of...

I tried a flare effect dirtying the glass... I think the result are not perfect... but they are neither awful!

I could use a too high exposition as the road was full of moving cars... so I had to try several setting in order to get te best result...
The exif say I shot this at exposure of 1/20 second and with a f/3.2

Sun and lights

This shot was taken in Bologna, in the historical center of Bologna... it was the 18:53 of the 22th of September

The sun was still high in the sky, but the street is so dark that the shops needs to turn on the lights...

You can see the difference in light between the last floor of the red building and street level.

An interesting urban condition to have in a picture...

The exposure time was set at 1/40 sec. and the aperture was at f/2.8, but do not be fooled by this I'll show you some photo from the same day and the same city that were shot half an hour later^_^

I can't help blogging this!

This was not expected!
This was not to be here before maaaany weeks, but i like this shot... I was looking at it in a pause from my work... and I decided to make it my frid's photo for this week...

This was shot at "The police - 2007 world tour" in Turin.... unbelievable... just too crazy for a gig!
Sting, Summers and above all Stewart Copeland... ok ok I play drums in my spare time (when I got some!) and so Copeland it a must-see for me...
Ehi! you should have seen the concert! 17 songs, all of them have been rearranged so all of them were
something a fan loves and something fully new.... what an experience!

THis photo will' let you get an idea of how many people were there... the tribunes were full too... but you cannot see them from this shot!

I've taken just short of 100 photos at the live, but I've selected only 3 for this blog... this is the first... the other? they will come with time^_^ (take a peek around February if you wanna see them!)

Just a Note... all of this week I've not taken any shot... I must continue shooting... it's the spare time to do it that is really missing... I succeed in updating this blog only as I have it all worked in a tight and secure process...
