So they are perfect for hte holydays...

Here are two more shots!

ooops I forgot...

Merry Christmas... and Happy New Year!

The Police Live 1 and 2

OK!!!
So it is the first couple of shots from the live itself...

The first shot shows the light... with a great blu flare... You can see two things:
1. We were really far from the stage!
2. there were 5 amazing screens... but look next pictures!

OK do you see it now? the whole stage was 1 big screen that plays with the light games!

Just a tech note... this shot were taken with a little of zoom... ok now you should comprehend how far we where...

Altough the distance from the stage (by far the greatest in all of my more than 20 lives) it has been one of the best (if not THE BEST) live in my life^_^

I can hardly explain why^_^

Delle Alpi - The Police

This is a shot of the "Delle Alpi" stadium... where the police have made their last italian live show.

I?m sorry to admit that meanwhile this shot was taken by me, I'm not the author of the composition's idea... that goes to Pino Macrì, a frined of mine (he is my comic book pusher too^_^),
While searching for the gate he proposed to make this "silhuette" photo... great idea Pino...

The shot was taken while we where moving so it is not the best shot... but it is shown here to honor the idea behind it...

Moreover this is the first of four posts on the concert... they are not the most artistic or journalistic shto of hte world... but it was a too great concert not to publish here some of it!

I'd have preferred a little more of saturation and contrast on this shot... but here it is as it was taken!
Shot Conditions? f/8.0 and 1/500"

P.S. I really hope you were there!

Ok ok I've made some count... as I have 9 photos to publish from it... I prefer to have 2 photos for blog entry so to end this chapter in 2 weeks^_^
So here it is the second shot... the advertising poster in a road near the stadium...
Nothing technically special... but if I want to have a complete reportage... I need it^_^

High Speed Sunset

Same day as the previous post (a little earlier I'd say) I took some shots from the sunset.
It was a claudy day so it was impossible to see the sun... but I could see its reflection on the clouds.
It was a fairly cheap shot to take... but I was alone in the Car speeding at something like 90 mph!

The shot was taken at f/2.8 with an exposure of 1/60".

11 December 2007

A Fast Red Sunset

This is the first of several photos to sunsets shot while driving on the highway.
None of them has seen any post processing, so you can see the dirty screen and some strange colors (but all of them are real!)

Personally I think my canon's white balance has gone wild on the hot side with this shot, but it was set on the usual AWB setting... altough this I think I like the shot... but maybe the effect is due to the red sun at my back.
In fact this shot was taken at some clouds that were mirroring the last seconds of sunset,

The shot was taken at 130 Kmh (just shy of 90 MPH), the exposure was set to 1/30" and the aperture was at f/3.2 (values taken from the exif I'm not so crazy to take notes while driving!)

08 December 2007

Bologna's Porch

I was in Bologna as said in the previous posts.
This is a view from the window odf the room I slept in!
The house was near city center, and so the streets near there are small and there are a porch for every palace.
The road itself is not too much lighted, but the porches are clearly lighted. This shot documents the overall effect^_^

It was taken at 10:37 PM with a f/2.8 and an exposure time of 1 sec (damn! It is really hard to shoot at these exposure times without a tripod!)

Wandering in Modena

The 23th of September I was in Modena wandering trough the esternal fringe of city center.
I was searching for some AA Batteries for my camera when I saw this strange king of garden... it had been creater on the top of the wall of an old palace in order to embellish obscuring the view inside (from the other palaces I believe as the wall was to high to peek inside from the street).

The city center is mainly red or yellow with some brown building and some white ones composed mainly of not-so-large alleys, so it was pretty unusual to find a garden like that one... so I decided to take a shoot of it.

After reviewing the photo I'm glad I've done so... the green band in the center of the composition breaks the photo's colors in a good way. The old man on the left create a sense of "peace" while the curve in the alley create movement... just my toughts about it obviously^_^

The exif tells me the shot was taken at 100 ISO with an aperture of f/5.0 and an exposure of 1/80"

30 November 2007

Glass Artework 2

Same setting as the previous post, only another glas artwork.
In the church there were 4 glass artworks but this two are the only ones I will post to this blog.
I believe this second one is a better photo than the previous one.

These two shots were taken the 23th of September (EXIF... I Love you!^_^) with an aperture of f/2.8 and an exposure time of 1/80" at 200 ISO.

28 November 2007

Glass Artwork 1

The day after being in Bologna I went to Modena to meet an old pal.

In the following day the girl that hosted me in Bologna (she is an old friend of both of us) came in Modena to meet us.
My pal had to go away for a while so I took a tour of modena with the friend from Bologna.
We ended up in this church near train station... it had a couple of amazing glasswork that colored the church in an amazing way.
So I took some photos... this is the first shot, the glasses beyond the main altar.

The photo was taken with an aperture of f/2.8 and an exposure of 1/80" at 200 ISO.

23 November 2007

Bologna's Evening

I was coming back to my friend house in bologna and in the city center (part of his heritage) I believed the sky was far darker than what really was...
So when I arrived at this crossroad that let me see far... I found a nice spot to shoot a photo of...

I tried a flare effect dirtying the glass... I think the result are not perfect... but they are neither awful!

I could use a too high exposition as the road was full of moving cars... so I had to try several setting in order to get te best result...
The exif say I shot this at exposure of 1/20 second and with a f/3.2

20 November 2007

Poggio di VallePiana

Near Montesano sulla Marcellana there's this agrituorism restaurant that's called "Il Poggio di Valle Piana" (that could be translated as "The Hill in Flat Valley").

It is a really peaceful and beautiful place.
In order to arrive you'd need a off-road vehicle, but you always go there with a normal city car (I own a FIAT Stilo) with some strain on you suspensions.... but once you get there...

It's a good looking house with some tables...

They usually give you a plentifull meal (8-9 dishes!) and you get to pay under 20€ each...

It's fantastic... really fantastic^_^

In the yard there's this portcully that let you enjoy the sight of "VallePiana", the only matter is that you cannot shoot these places at the right time, with the right light as I aslways go there at lunch time in summer so there a strong, perpendicular light...

But I'd like to give you an idea of the sight from the restaurant as I find it really peacefull and pleasant!

17 November 2007

Vallo di Diano

This summer I've gone in mountain wiht a friend of mine, searching for an "Acgriturismo"... a place where you can eat and drink local products...

The chosen place was near "Montesano sulla Marcellana" in Salerno's province.

That morning I took several shoot of the view from the village, the light was strong so they are not the best shot you can dream of... but the land is really amazing...
We're in Italy... and look at how many grassland is out there^_^

The shot was taken just before going to sleep as we went there after a night playing with "Tide of Iron".

Exposure was 1/400
Aperture was f/4.0

14 November 2007

Sun and lights

This shot was taken in Bologna, in the historical center of Bologna... it was the 18:53 of the 22th of September

The sun was still high in the sky, but the street is so dark that the shops needs to turn on the lights...

You can see the difference in light between the last floor of the red building and street level.

An interesting urban condition to have in a picture...

The exposure time was set at 1/40 sec. and the aperture was at f/2.8, but do not be fooled by this I'll show you some photo from the same day and the same city that were shot half an hour later^_^

10 November 2007

Hill and Sea

The 7th of November I was invited to an International Conference on Design System's Development it was taken in Ravello, in the Costiera Amalfitana.

The location was not easy to find (I had to get trough a herd of sheeps!) but it was really a beautiful day...
DUring most of the day I was hlad in the conference room, but I succeeded in taking some shots going back to my car...

There are some beautiful sights out there, as shown by this photo... but it was too late and the near mountain's shadow started to creep over the land...

I like this shot... but if I succeeded in shooting it just 15 minutes before It wuold have been quite better!

This was done with my A630 with an ET of 1/1250 and the aperture setting at f/4.1

07 November 2007

Paler shades of grey

Paler shades of grey, that is what you'll have if you succeed in shooting a mountain chain...

The farer the mountain is the paler it gets... we are used to this, but it's an amazing photo subject for me^_^

And there's a more striking effect if the mountain you shoot are ripe with vegetation so there's a "greener grey"!

This shot was made near the sunset so there's a soft light that's always useful in this kind of photos...
To say it all I'd prefferred having another mountain after the foreground one... but I have not found a spot whit it...

Shot was made at 07:05 PM, with an Exposure Time of 1/400 at f/4.1

02 November 2007

Nice, Old Church

I was in Pinerolo in September (many of my shots were taken in this period)...

With some of the other students we decided to go walking in the countryside to know it.
In one of the squares of this little town there was this nice, old church...

I like the strong vivid red of the church's walls, and a nice looking gradient in the background...
A sidenote on the belltower... look at it^_^

This was made with an exposure time of 1/500 sec, and a FNumber of f/4.0...

31 October 2007

Is this a photo for Halloween?

Definitely not!

This was shot in Pinerolo, the 12th of September, and it was only a chance that has made it reach the post of 30th October... really!

The cart was parked out of a grocery... It was too strange a subject to not shoot it^_^

There are many pumpkin variant in the cart... help yourself!

Maybe I should have tried for a different perspective, tough...

27 October 2007

a small stream

This is another shot from Pinerolo... one of land's features near the hotel we were "imprisoned" in...
If you go out of hte hotel, you'll find this little stream maybe two hundred meters down the road to the town...

If you look hard you'll see an house on the background... this little stream is really near the town...

I really like the shades of green in the photo... so I share them...

next time new photo

23 October 2007

Paulie!

In Pinerolo, during the Courses of teaching methodology of AIDEA, at lunch time...

You can always decide not to eat in order to make some good shot...

Surely at lunch time (1:30 PM here in Italy) the perpendicular light does not bode well for your photos... but you can always find a nice shadowy spot where there's something interesting to shoot...

In this spcific case I was strolling under some porch when near a Bar (a place where you can drink coffe, have an aperitive and other things lile those) when I see this huge golden cage with a parrot inside...

It was veay shy of the camera... so I had to shoot many times in order to have a good one...

I like this photo as it is shadow, but the colors are not dim...

Technical data?
F Number = f/3,5
Esposure = 1/60 sec
ISO = 100

19 October 2007

I can't help blogging this!

This was not expected!
This was not to be here before maaaany weeks, but i like this shot... I was looking at it in a pause from my work... and I decided to make it my frid's photo for this week...

This was shot at "The police - 2007 world tour" in Turin.... unbelievable... just too crazy for a gig!
Sting, Summers and above all Stewart Copeland... ok ok I play drums in my spare time (when I got some!) and so Copeland it a must-see for me...
Ehi! you should have seen the concert! 17 songs, all of them have been rearranged so all of them were
something a fan loves and something fully new.... what an experience!

THis photo will' let you get an idea of how many people were there... the tribunes were full too... but you cannot see them from this shot!

I've taken just short of 100 photos at the live, but I've selected only 3 for this blog... this is the first... the other? they will come with time^_^ (take a peek around February if you wanna see them!)

Just a Note... all of this week I've not taken any shot... I must continue shooting... it's the spare time to do it that is really missing... I succeed in updating this blog only as I have it all worked in a tight and secure process...

Clearly I'm not able to say which song they were playing... but I can give some technical info on the photo...

f number = f/3,5
Shutter speed = 1/20

Enjoy the photo... but I hope you've enjoed the tour too!

18 October 2007

Just one Flower

So I was eating at Pinerolo, and I decided to bring with me my camera...

I hadn't been shooting for a couble of days... but from the other side of the garden there was a nice pink flower I had to shoot...

I tried to get the most color out of the photo, only using the shutter speed and the exposure value... obviously I have my A630 at Vivid color setting!
I'm just sorry of the focal of the image, as it appear someway blurred if 100% cropped...

Ask for it if you wanna see the defect, it's almost invisible at 1600*1200 (Picasa resizes my foto at this resolution, but I have offline the original shot!)

Values?
Exposure = 1/100 Sec
FNumber = f/5.0

Obviously as I was lunching I have not recorded this info but I get them outta EXIF!

13 October 2007

Bikes for rent

First day in Pinerolo, the school is not started...
With some guys and gals we're round abouting to know the place...
Near Turin bikes are a very common form of transportation, maybe once they were more used than cars...

So they have this tradition, or so I believe... without doubt there are bikes for rent every few hundred of paces (ok... ok... maybe some thousand is far more true^_^.)

In pinerolo renting a bike is something you can do trough this coin-operated columns... I've not stopped to read fares and rules... I'm not into biking^_^

But something cought my eye... the bikes seemed lines as in few use a video camera to film it's video out...
I'm justo sorry for the GRIVA advertising in the background, but you can only shoot what really is out there, aren't you ?

So here's the shoot.... C Ya next shot!

09 October 2007

Two Trees

This has been shot in my long travel to Pinerolo...

The train was in a station and from the other side of the wagon there were this few trees...
Two of them were really strange, the first one was green, but that at its side was red, purple... a color like that....

So I decided to have this photo...

Ok! Ok! It's not the most artistical photo you'll ever see, but I found it enticing^_^

The EXIF tells me this shot was taken at 10:19 AM of the 10th of September; the aperture was f/5.0 and the exposure was 1/800 sec...

06 October 2007

Running trough Station

I was going to Pinerolo, dawn was just pased into daylight... there were an orange tinge in the light... the train was passing trough a station, and there was a light bend on the right... a good setting for a couple of shots...

This is the one I like the most... if only we could have been there 15 minutes before.... ok ok we cannot have everything!

05 October 2007

Sunset II

Another pick of the sightseeing from my house... it was shot the 8th if September at the 19:47...
I really like the colors in this picture... the sky that goes from red to blu is one of my preferred subjects...

this was shot with an exposure of 1/9 of second and an Aperture of 3.5... if this is something you want to know...
ISO? I have not wirtten it down, but I believe it's a 200 shot

29 September 2007

Red Sky

Another shot of the sight from my house...

It was only 12 hours later than the previous one, but this time I was very lucky, a bank of cluod shielded the camer from the shades of blu, leaving only a deep red in the sky to stand against city lights...

Yeah, I was lucky^_^

25 September 2007

Sunrise

Just out of my house sometimes the lights at dawn is really strange, it tinges my city, Naples, of a strange orange light that make its best come out!

This shot was taken from my house at 07:01:26 the 9th of September 2007.
